The gorgeous Great Hall at historic St. Lawrence Hall was the scene of Donna and Steve’s wedding. You couldn’t ask for a more romantic and elegant setting with the entire third floor lavishly appointed with elegant period furniture, gleaming hardwood floors, amazing fresco work on the walls and an incredibly gorgeous frescoed ceiling, complete with an immense gorgeous gas flame chandelier and gas flame wall sconces. At dusk, the lamplighter arrives to light the gas lamps creating a beautiful warm glow and glinting on the gold trim on the wall and ceiling frescoes.
The ceremony was set up in the great hall. Beautiful gold chivari chairs were lined up chapel style in front of the towering floor to ceiling windows on the south wall. The flower girl and matron of honour led the procession followed by Donna in a stunning white beaded dress on the arm of her father to wedding music played live on the grand piano. After the nuptials had taken place, the guests filed out into the large foyer and enjoyed nibbling snacks at the grazing table and refreshed themselves at the bar.
Meanwhile, the great hall was being transformed into a beautiful dining room with champagne linens and wedgewood blue napkins. A sumptuous buffet was awaiting guests done up in slate blue linens, silver and crystal chandeliers and blue and white hydrangeas to match the floral centrepieces on the guest tables.
The bride and groom, he dashing in his tux, she gorgeous in her champagne mink stole and adorable “beehive” hairdo led the way to the buffet table. As a juxtaposition to the formal setting of the room, dinner was a fun and casual menu delighting guests of all ages and included a “Macaroni and Cheese Station” with a multitude of toppings to choose from, including the grooms’ special request – Tabasco Sauce!!
For dessert a gorgeous sweet table was laden with goodies all baked by a generous friend of the bride and groom.
After dinner, with the gas lights suitably dimmed, the guests got out on the dance floor and rocked the night away. A fun and fitting end to a wonderful wedding and reception!
Best wishes to Donna and Steve!
